More south, the closeness of the eastern border is evident; old watchtowers are seen in the horizon and the border area is next to the EuroVelo 13 route.

EuroVelo 13 - Iron Curtain Trail goes from the Barents Sea to the Black Sea. The route passes through 20 different countries, including 15 members of the EU. The Finnish part of EuroVelo 13 starts from the village of Näätämö and goes all the way down to Vaalimaa in the south. The route is approximately 1700 km on good asphalted roads.
